(La biographie est seulement disponible en anglais) François Marcaurelle, founder of the group "Tasman" (1978-1984), is a well known composer in the world of Montreal fusion jazz. Since 1978, he was joined by highly talented musicians such as Richard Beaudet, Bernard Primeau, Jean-Pierre Zanella, Sylvain Bolduc, Jim Hillman and Muhammad Abdul al Khabhyyr to produce and interpret his music. Marcaurelle took part in every Montreal Jazz Festival since the beginning of the 80's and his compositions were heard regularly on the C.B.C. and Radio-Canada networks. His pianistic styles covers a wide range of impressive tones and the acoustic context shows his sensitivity as well as his musical determination. Marcaurelle has three recordings to his credit, namely "Opus 1.7" (Amplitude JACD 4020) and "Opus 2.6 ( "Lost Chart" LC 1003) and "Opus 3.8" (LC 1011) distributed by Analekta. All recordings featured the artist's original works.
Marcaurelle currently lives and works in Montreal where he is a respected performer and teacher. He is the leader of two very exciting jazz ensembles, i.e. the Marcaurelle Trio featuring Guitarist, Sylvain Provost and Bassist, Normand Guilbeault. The Francois Marcaurelle Sextet features some of Quebec's finest jazz artists such as - saxophonist, Richard Beaudet; guitarist, Sylvain Provost; trombonist, David Grott; bassist, Norman Lachapelle and Denis Lailloux on drums.
