DAN NOSEWORTHY TRIO/DNT
Guitarist
Dan Noseworthy formed the first Dan Noseworthy Trio in 1990,
and in the intervening years he has led many trio permutations in performance.
Noseworthy uses the name Dan Noseworthy Trio/DNT, or simply the abbreviation
DNT,
to refer to his two, long-established, original repertoire trios.
Dan Noseworthy
(guitar), Frédéric Alarie (contrabass) and
Pierre Tanguay (drums) comprise the elder DNT, established in 1993 when
Alarie joined the unit. This is a continuation of Noseworthy's first jazz trio,
originally formed with Tanguay eleven years ago.
Dan Noseworthy
(guitar), Normand Guilbeault (contrabass) and
Pierre Tanguay (drums) comprise the younger DNT, established in 1997 when
Guilbeault joined the unit. This is a double duo: as with Noseworthy and Tanguay,
Guilbeault & Tanguay have also performed together for the past eleven years.
Tinged with
blues, latin, modal, swing, bop and beyond, their repertoire spans the
musical range of original material, standards, the music of past & present jazz
greats,
the familiar & obscure, and the straight ahead to free.
The music of DNT has been described as being "inside", "outside", "modern",
"straight ahead", "tightly loose", "beautifully flowing" and "melodically angular".
DNT has
performed in concert at
the first edition of L'OFF Festival de Jazz de Montréal,
La Chapelle historique du Bon-Pasteur, Stewart Hall
and Maison de la culture Côte-des-Neiges.
As the core of the Dan Noseworthy Quartet/DNQ, DNT has also performed at
the 13th, 15th, & 17th editions of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
and Maisons de la culture Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Marie-Uguay,
Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Plateau-Mont-Royal,
has been recorded and broadcast by
CBC Two's Jazz Beat,
and were nominated at the 13th FIJM for the
Prix de Jazz Alcan (best ensemble) and the Prix Socan (best composition).
